Work has started on the latest high-rise scheme to be built in Dublin 4. Construction is underway on a 15-storey office tower that will rise over the Dart line in the south Docklands. Property giants Treasury Holdings have unveiled new images of how the huge block will look when it is finished in just over two years time. Dubbed Montevetro, the development at Barrow Street, near Grand Canal Dock, replaces a previous plan for a taller 18-storey apartment building. According to Treasury, Montevetro will be made up of 19,500 sq m of contemporary office space, with 80 car parking spaces provided over three levels of basement. There will also be extensive extra bicycle and motorbike parking places. The project is due to be finished by autumn 2010.Barrow Street has been the subject of a thorough and detailed masterplanning process undertaken by DEGW Architects at the request of Dublin City Council. Treasury controls two of the major development sites on the street "This plan has brought together the developers of the three identified major development sites within Barrow Street, to enable the complete transformation of the street scene and pedestrian links to the water'a Treasury spokesperson said. "This will result in a new environment of modern business
premises set within a historic setting, enhanced by significant new public spaces."Treasury has recently completed a 16-storey apartment tower on Grand Canal Quay called Alto Vetro. That building is Ireland's first block of homes with elevations made entirely from glass and cost €21m to build.
